Chapter 3 - Project Environment

Part 3

Summary

To summarise the keywords of that chapter, here is a quick overview:

Technical term Definition
Project environment The environment in which the project is formulated, assessed and implemented. This directly or indirectly affects the project and/or is affected by the project
PESTLE-Analysis Political, economic, sociocultural, technological, legal or environmental impact on the project
Impact analysis It identifies and presents the various interests of the different factors in the project environment
E.g. the degree to which it is affected (strongly/hardly/not at all) or the way in which it can be categorised (positively/negatively)
Participative approach Active involvement of parties concerned: provision of and participation in information
Discursive approach Balancing of different interests of parties concerned
Repressive approach Presentation of a "fait accompli": decisions are already made without any involvement of parties concerned

Let's practice - transfer project

It's time to do the environmental analysis for your wedding-project.

Think about possible impacts on your project and write them down. Under the specific umbrella term, you can find some ideas. Of course, there are many other impacts which are not listed below. Just be creative!

Political framework
  • Who is in charge? Your friend or his fiancĂ©e?
Economic framework
  • What about the budget? Is there a financial scope?
Sociological framework
  • Are there any neighbours who will feel disturbed by the noise of the party?
  • Keep in mind: Children don't want to be bored
Technological framework
  • How is the equipment of the location?
Legal framework
  • Think about noise protection
  • Is a power of attorney needed in your case?
  • Keep in mind: Don't drink and drive!
Ecological framework
  • Waste reduction (don't use plastic cups etc. if it's avoidable)
  • If you don't plan overnight stays: your location should be easily accessible by public transportation

Test yourself!

Now it is time to check your knowledge.

Answer the following questions for yourself. Please take your time and think carefully about what you would answer before revealing the solution.

Which communication strategies can be used to manage the project environment?
  • Provision of and participation in information (participative strategy).
  • Balancing of different interests (discursive strategy).
  • Presentation of a "fait accompli" (repressive strategy).
